Note: In order to use the Connect and Connect and Search commands with databases, text files and LDAP (Active Directory) connections, you must first install and configure the Connection Agent. See Steps to Integrating Your Forms.


 

Main Section

The Main section provides options for establishing the connection, connection actions, parameters and more.

 

Connection

Connection

Select from the list of existing connections. If you do not see the connection you need, you may need to click the Refresh Refresh Button button or exit the Form Designer and create the new connection from the PerfectForms™ Connections Dashboard.

Action

Select from the list of existing connection actions associated with the selected connection. If you do not see the action you need, you may need to click the Refresh Refresh Button button or exit the Form Designer and create the new connection action from the PerfectForms™ Dashboard.

 

Defining Connection Actions

 

Send Parameters

Search

Select the Search check box to enable searching on the field defined in that row of the Send Parameters table.

 

 

Name

Displays the name of the field as defined in the action (available from the PerfectForms™ Connections Dashboard).

The value in this column represents the form field to pass via the send parameter. Click a cell in this column to select the field.


Note: Data passed cannot exceed 250 characters.


 

 

Formula

Select this check box to enable formula editing for the selected parameter. Once selected, you can click in the Source column to launch the Formula and Conditions Editor.

 

This option should be used if the data to pass from the form is not a simple field but an expression.

Return Parameters

Show

Select this check box to have the search dialog show the field defined in that row of the Return Parameters table as a column of data.

 

 

Name

Displays the connection action field that holds returned data (available from the PerfectForms™ Connections Dashboard).

 

Defining Connection Actions

Target

The value in this column represents the form field that will accept the returned value. Click a cell in this column to select the field.

 

 

Items

When specifying a list or drop-down object as the object to return the data to, there are three check boxes available for selection. The options are as follows:

 

Select the first check box to populate the caption.
Select the second check box to populate the value.
Select the third check box to tell the system that for the drop-down object, none of the items in the list should be selected by default. This check box is only enabled after either the first or second check box in the Items column is selected.

 

Misc

Title

Enter text that will be displayed in the header of the search dialogue box.

 

Number of Rows Per Page

Specify the maximum number of rows that can be returned (the system limit is 1000).

 

 

Width

Enter the width (in pixels) for the page.

 

 

Height

Enter the height (in pixels) for the page.

 

 

Message

Enter a message (normally instructional) that will be displayed in the search dialogue box.

 

Summary

Auto-Summary

Auto-summary refers to the text that will be shown on the command in the Behaviors canvas. By default, this check box is selected.

 

For commands that use a condition or calculation, Auto-Summary will display the formula selected in the Condition Properties. If no condition exists, nothing will be displayed.

 

If you wish to have other summary text display, clear the Auto-summary check box and type the custom text in the list box below. Your text will be retained if you later decide to enable Auto-summary.

This is where manual summary text can be entered when the Auto-summary option is not turned on.
