The State property controls the appearance of the field or object on your form. Fields and objects can be hidden (for example, helper fields), ready-only, disabled and more. For a complete listing of available statuses and their uses, see Explanation of State Priority and Understanding the Default State.
It is important to note that controlling the state from the Properties bar in Layout view means that the object will always be shown in that selected state, regardless of user, role or stage the form is in during its life cycle. For information on using states as a means to limit user access based on the workflow stage the form instance is in, see Limiting User Access to Form Fields.
Interactive Example
To see an interactive example of field access control based on workflow stages and roles, see the Required Field Checking and Field States Example topic (available only in the online version of this help guide).
