There is in fact a 400 character limit in text areas and text inputs in tables. I will submit an enhancement request for consideration to raise the character limit in a future release.

Is the maximum number of characters in a a Text Input or Text Area column in a Table object really just 400? Are there plans to increase this in future releases? I have a form that with a Multiline Text Input that I've set to 800 characters but now I have to drop it to 400 so I can load that field into a column in a table.

You can export all of your instance data to a text file by following the instructions in our help guide: http://www.perfectforms.com/Documentation/manual/html/?d_exportingformsandformdata.htm.
Keep in mind it will export in our schema. If you want it in your schema you should use the Connection Agent to programmatically write to a database of your choosing when the instances are submitted.

I am not sure what you are asking about SQL connections. They can be performed programmatically as part of a form's workflow.

I'm trying to create lists with commas in them with "city, states".

Using the quick input a comma is the delimiter for value.
Importing a .csv file imports the names with quotes around them, which I have to manually remove.

How can I do quick input or CSV such that imports will have the commas excluded as delimiters and quotes won't appear around each item?

Also, is it possible to export a list?

Our Connection Agent does not support MS Access. If you have a web service that can pull data from it then you can integrate with that web service, or you can export your data to a .txt file (CSV) and use the Connection Agent to read/write the CSV file.

Keep in mind that the application and forms run in the user's browser. It only "calls" the application or database server on load, save, and submit. That is why loading and saving the design of a large form will take longer. The most important thing to consider is the performance for the users of the forms.

Larger forms will take longer to load. I try to reduce the number of behavior objects by using Run Behavior objects wherever possible. When possible I use parent child relationships to break large processes up into smaller pieces.

Workflow software, Process software, Procedure software

This is an interesting post Dennis. I appreciate there may be a myriad of options, but my forms are experiencing sluggish response times even after the User has deleted the cache, ~30-40 seconds when saving the form (where only handful of Users are on the server at the time). Not so when the browse between pages/objects. The issue appears to be when saving back to the DB. The form is several hundred fields in the one instance, likely to be more, with very little to no images in the interface.

Where my customers have deleted their cache (across Macromedia as well), is there a checklist of things I can review to get the most out of Perfectforms.

As a list of items already considered:
* Server hardware/specs above the recommended install
* Database optimisation
* Database rebuild
* All the behaviours are relevant to the front-end (I do not suspect these are saved to the DB at the time the Customer clicks 'save')

If you have a cheat-sheet of items to consider I would be grateful. That, or some guidance on the limitation on the number of fields, controls and behaviours that I would put into a single instance this too will help.

Kind regards.

If the PerfectForms dashboard or forms are loading very slowly and you have eliminated bandwidth and connection speed issues your settings may not allow Flash to properly cache. You can control the amount of cache a Flash site is allowed to use on your computer. Macromedia has a site with a control panel that lets you control the website storage settings on your machine. The control panel you will see on this site is not an image; it is the actual Settings Manager. Click the tabs to see different panels, and click the options in the panels to change your Adobe Flash Player settings.
Click this link to manage your settings: http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager07.html.

Is there a way to turn off vertical and horizontal scrolling in a PF form that is embedded into a HTML page? I realise I can manipulate the width and height (eg. add 1x pixel to width and height), but when I do, the form adds a single pixel padding to the left and top of the form. My predicament is to embed the code with the exact width and height attributes and it has scrolling in some browsers (IE9), or increase the width and height by 1x pixel which removes the PF scrollers but adds the 1x pixel padding. I want neither, I would prefer a parameter to turn off scrolling if I could. Thanks in advance. (Below code of same embed)

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://my-domain.com/utils.js"></script><script type="text/javascript">pf_embed("http://mydomain.com/player.aspx", "AbCd", "f=gKgDrAoB", "950", "800", "window"); </script>

I suspect that there is a behavior that is changing the state of the object. In design mode delete the object.

Hi, Two things I'm unable to perform with my published forms (v1.18) are related:

1. In the Embed code with the background set to "transparent", as opposed to "window" by default the form defaults to the background-color (white). My embed file sits on a HTML page with a patterned background, it is this I want to come through. How do I do this?

2. How can I hide horizontal and vertical scrolling in a published form. The size of the form has an output of width and height 100x100, if I add the embed code into my HTML page there is vertical and horizontal scroller in IE browsers (tested v8 and v9). If I add a single pixel to the width and height (101x101) I sure enough get rid of the scrollers but I now have a single pixel width and height added to my form, which I do not want. How might I address this in PF?

Cheers!

Does anyone know what may be causing field data not to display once a form has been submitted? The data is visible in the data history and it can be exported, however when the form is opened the data does not display. There is no workflow on the form and the state is default. Is there such a thing as a disjoint betweent he form and the database?

We are currently planning the next release of the PerfectForms HTML client side player. V 2.2 is due out late Q1 2012. With this enhanced capability, Flash will no longer be required on the client to view and interact with forms and applications built with PerfectForms. You will be able to build and deploy HTML forms that are fully capable on iPads, iPhones, other mobile devices and all the browsers we currently support with the Flash player.

Our licensing schema requires a Full or Basic license to view the live and dynamic reports.
A complex solution to circumvent our licensing requirements would be to display the information in a form using form connections and a table. This would give you the raw data but not the ability to drill down and manipulate it like our reports do.

I also agree - I've hard "unconfirmed" rumours about extended HTML5 functionality but as yet nothing offical.. can PerfectForms confirm or give some feedback on what to expect in the next release (2.1)

I agree - Flash no longer is a valid option, I have multiple clients that now want the processes, forms and surveys that I have created in PerfectForms to work on their i-Pads and I can't offer them the solution, without starting again from scratch.

I would like to see some detailed (official) product update information from Perfect forms.

Thanks for the reply - I think you must realise that this does not answer my point, unless I am missing something?

I need a dashboard that displays up to date, live information - not a pdf I have to run the print function and then update to my website. Unless, this is an automated feature? If I am running multiple surveys, I can't be updated the PDF every hour as required by the client.

Surely, I can't be the only user requiring this, free software like survey monkey allows easier client feedback.

Could you let me know if this is being addressed?

Thanks,

When sending out to a text file, I'm noticing that commas that a person enters into a field are becoming what I'm guessing are ASCII codes so as to appear correctly in, say, Excel. However, when I try to import into Access I'm not seeing the records with the user entered commas.

The only way I can think to resolve this is to have a separate function for each field and purge any commas (or at least replace them). Before I take on this task, does anyone know of any simpler methods?

Please check your PerfectForms service log. It will detail all of the notifications. It can be found on the application server usually at: C:\Program Files\PerfectForms\PerfectFormsService\PFService.txt.
If you need further assistance, paste the error from the log and I will review for you.

We have experienced notification emails issues - not all notification emails are actually sent out (not even made it to the Exchange server), though based on the PerfectForms console, all the notification emails have been sent out upon submissions at the defined workflows. Due to these "failures" are sporatic or intermittent, and there are notifications for the same stages did get sent out and received, therefore I know for sure this is not caused by forms logic, but more like a system related issue.

Based on some quick analysis from the server event log, I am seeing some system events potentially related to SSL (ex. Schannel, Event ID 36887, etc.), which seemed to correlate to the timeframes of the form/stage submissions with no notification emails. Is this truly related to our notification email issue or something else?

Any suggestion is appreciated.
