Tomcat installs by default to port 8080. You can configure it to use a different port. The Connection Agent can be configured to accept queries from only specific IPs. If you restrict the IP that can send requests to the Connection Agent, you will have to use the IP address for PerfectForms (The IP address of app.perfectforms.com is 67.192.109.138), and use proxy in all of your connections. Normally queries to the Connection Agent come from the users' browser. Checking Use Proxy will route all queries through the PerfectForms app.

Are there any recommendations out there regarding using the Connection Agent with Forefront Threat Management Gateway? We really want a reverse proxy in front of the connection agent since the connections it makes are so sensitive. What ports need to be open on the front end? Is 80 or 443 sufficient?

Once you have your connection and action created it is possible to "re-point" them to a different datasource. In the connection click the button that says "Check". it will then allow you to choose a Datasource and Database from the drop-downs below.
Of course this presumes that all of the send and receive parameters are identical, and that you have properly configured your Connection Agent to map to your datasources.

Hi, Dennis,

Not sure if I am correct - the import/export connection probably works the best for backup purposes.

I also would like to know if there is a better solution regarding setting up new database connection. In our case, we have the need to first build out the form to point to test database table(s) (from our other enterprise systems) to test the entire business process. Then when everything is verified, the database table(s) will then be migrated to the production environment - which will then become a different datasource v.s. the test database. When I am getting ready to launch the form (or save as a new form for production usage), is it possible to just make a simple "re-pointing", or optionally import/export the entire connection and action settings/objects, with provided datasource parameters, so that I don't need to reconfigure the entire connection settings/actions and even the form behaviors on the production form?

Any suggestion is appreciated. Thanks.

I was wondering if there was a way to copy a database connection.

I have created a clone of an existing database (same server, new database name, same table structure, stored procedures, etc) and I have made a copy of my form. I have also created a new database entry in the config.xml file pointing to the new database. I am faced with the prospect of creating a new connection and manually replicating the actions to connect the form copy to the database copy, unless there is a way to copy the existing connection.

Could I export the connection and then re-import it with a new name, and update the datasource/database to point to the new database? Or would that cause conflicts in the system?

I do realize that, no matter what, I will have to go into the form an update the connection behaviors, but that shouldn't be too difficult.

So the issue has been resolved, from what I can tell. It was either one of two things. One I was not clearing all of the fields before connecting and searching, which I thought could have been clogging something up. Secondly, and what I think was the issue, is I was using time fields where the user could enter in a work schedule of start and end times for each day. On the SQL server database I was using the time data type to store these fields. These were being stored correctly, but when returning the data types it seems like it was having a problem butting the time data types from the sql server back into the time fields on the form. I changed the data types to varchar and everything works now.

I have created a search page allowing the user to enter an order id and press a search button. I have setup a behavior behind the search button that uses a connection with our SQL Server database. I pass the primary key as the input parameter that the user entered and return all the values from the table back to perfect forms and assign them to the screen. The first time I perform the search the connection and everything works perfectly. When I try to search again, I get the please wait screen and it continues this until I close the session. This was in design mode and me using the preview function. I published the page and tried from the link provided. I had a little more luck being able to search 3 or 4 times but eventually would get stuck again and then I would get a time out box. After hitting the ok button on the time out box my results would then return. Any ideas?

I have an issue with a form that updates a database. I have found that, when sending text with certain characters to the database, the update behavior fails and the error "An error has occurred. Invalid request parameters" is displayed.

Characters that can cause this problem include quotation marks that are not straight (such as MS Word's Smart Quotes), the ellipsis character, Em dashes, etc.

I believe this is a PerfectForms issue, as the Database is able to handle the characters. In fact, PerfectForms is able to retrieve the characters from the database and display them without any problems; the error only occurs when trying to update the database. Are there any ideas as to why this might be? Is there any documentation regarding what characters the Connection Agent can and cannot handle?

If your changes to the configuration file are not saving the problems probably comes from the fact that you are running the Connection Agent Configurator without the administrator permissions.

I am attempting to establish a Web Service connection with a SAAS provider. The provider supports SOAP web services, however their WSDL files are behind their authentication.

As a result, unless you are logged in, you cannot connect to the service. They recommend downloading the WSDL file to implement in the application consuming the service, however I don't see how that would be possible with PerfectForms.

Is there a way to reference a local WSDL file in a Web Service Connection? If not, is there a way to embed authentication parameters into a Web Service Connection? So far as I can tell they do not have a CROSSDOMAIN.XML file in their root directory, so it needs to be a proxy connection.

We are now evaluating the possibility of using "Synchronize" to automatically create user accounts based on defined properties (or filters). For example, to grant Limited User License to all the supervisors in our institution as their "base access" so that they can interact with forms through notification emails. I would like to know how other institutions are managing user accounts and keeping up with them, and how well this "Synchronize" is. Any feedback is appreciated.

Hi,

Is there a possibility where I can integrate the users in my active directory with the perfect forms. So that i can maintain the organizational hiearchy. I should also be able to use the same in Workflows.

Thanks
